Local Ice Rinks

It’s time to go ice skating at Orland Park’s Winter Wonderland Ice Rink! If you don’t own a pair of skates you can rent your skates before you hit the ice.

Frankfort Square Park District also has two ice rinks that will be open to the public weather permitting. Keep an eye out for the Frankfort’s ice rink located in Main Park to open again this year too!

Polar Express at Hickory Creek Metra Train Station

You better not shout! You better not cry! You better not pout, and I’ll tell you why! Santa Claus is coming to town, and you’re going to go pick him up! Hop aboard the Polar Express at Hickory Creek Metra Train Station in Mokena because you’re invited to go on a trip to the North Pole! On this voyage you’ll get to enjoy a story time and some cookies. Once you arrive to your destination, you’ll find Santa and bring him back to Mokena for pictures and fun. traces the adventures of a young Parisian girl who – despite starting off on the wrong foot with a mischievous new neighbor – eventually learns that first impressions aren’t everything.

New Businesses in Frankfort, Mokena!

There are a bunch of new businesses opening up in Frankfort and Mokena.  I thought I would share!  Great news!!

  • Mama Rosetta’s Gelateria and Espresso Bar is scheduled to finally open by Sept. 1, just in time for Frankfort Fall Festival. The sweet shop, which is at 3 Oak St., next to Breidert Green, will serve a variety of gelato, Italian pastires and espresso. Plans for Mama Rosetta’s opening have been ongoing since 2010.
  • Prairie Godmothers, an eco-friendly garden consulting group which offers workshops at Evilena’s Red Dresser in Frankfort, has a special time-saving offer for bulb ordering according to color preferences and yard conditions. Go to and use the password “shovel.” Make a list of the bulbs you like through My Favorites. Then e-mail the list to for pricing and availability.   • Sugarless World Bakery, Mokena’s newest business as of Aug. 27, the date planned for its grand opening, according to Marie Martinez.  You can find them on Facebook!
  • White Street Interiors has only been open since May 15, but it has drawn a steady stream of business thanks to drive-by traffic on Old Frankfort Way, said co-owner Becky Groskreutz.

Firecracker Fest – Mokena on July 16th, Saturday!

The Mokena Lions Club is at it again with the newly named Firecracker Fest. Described in the past as Mokena’s largest block party, it will include a bean bag tournament, food (courtesy of Aurelio’s), drinks (courtesy of Margaritaville) and performances by the band Rendition. Oh, and don’t forget that raffle which includes a $5,000 prize. Tickets for the 24th annual Firecracker Fest can be bought at the door for $15.

Mokena 4th of July Parade

My family and I headed out to the Mokena 4th of July parade for the first time since living in LW area (5 years).  I have to say… they put on a great parade… well organized too 🙂  I highly recommend 🙂
